"I went to the woods because I
wished to live deliberately, to front
only the essential facts of life, and
see if I could not learn what it had
to teach, and not when I came to
die, discover that I had not lived."
-Thoreau

Offering unique courses on wilderness
skills and nature awareness
About Owl Creek Programs:
Owl Creek Programs is dedicated to mentoring ourselves and others in
connecting with the natural world. We approach this commitment through nature
awareness, animal tracking, survival skills, community-building, mentoring skills,
and overall fostering strong connections to nature, self, and community. We
aspire to immerse ourselves in nature to realize that nature is not outside of
ourselves but we are a part of the whole. In our programs we strive to have fun,
inspire our students, encourage hope, promote healthy learning and growth,
and demonstrate that nature is a profound teacher about life.
Our unique approach combines modern field sciences with the way indigenous
cultures have passed on lessons to their youth and lived sustainably for
thousands of years. We seek to mentor the next generation of capable leaders
and stewards of our earth who will be prepared to face an uncertain future and
inherit a world that will be unfamiliar to us today.
What is taught and how it is taught is influenced by our experiences learning
from nature and our elders, teachers, and mentors including Tom Brown Jr.,Paul
Raphael, Jon Young, Robert Moss, Mark Morey, and the late Grandfather Ingwe,
and Gilbert Walkingbull,

Sustainability
"We do not need to invent
sustainable human
communities. We can learn
from societies that have lived
sustainably for centuries. We
can also model communities
after nature's ecosystems...
Since the outstanding
characteristic of the
biosphere is its inherent
ability to sustain life, a
sustainable human
community must be designed
in such a manner that its
technologies and social
institutions honor, support,
and cooperate with nature's
inherent ability to sustain life."
- Fritjof Capra

Summer Day Camp for Seniors!
June 15-19, 2009
Traditionally, Elders are respected for their experience, knowledge and
perspective and play an essential role in maintaining a strong and healthy
community. By practicing basic routines in a natural environment, this day
camp introduces participants to the observation of nature, natural rhythms
and patterns, and the art of questioning. This, along with teachings founded
and perfected through thousands of years in native cultures, combine to
form a platform from which one can gain valuable insights into hearing their
own voice as well as gaining skills to effectively mentor others.
