More Detailed Information About the Program:
Location/Facilities: The camp will take place on private property that borders the I.U. Teaching and Research
Preserve and the Griffy Lake Preserve on Headley Road. If the weather is nice we will be outside but if it is too
hot, cold, or raining we have a comfortable indoor space to go that has heating/air conditioning. We will have
chairs for participants to sit in or you may bring your own favorite outdoor chair from home.
Daily Activities: Each day will consist of discussions, nature walks, lectures/presentations, stories, and other
activities. We will take about a 30 minute break each day for a snack or light lunch around noon. Participants
will be in charge of bringing their own snacks/ food and refreshments.
What Will You Need To Bring: A notebook, appropriate clothing and gear to be outside for the day (check
the weather), food/snacks, water/refreshments, a chair is optional (we will have chairs available), a camera is
optional, binoculars is optional, and anything else you need to be comfortable.
Traditionally, Elders are respected for their experience, knowledge and perspective and play
an essential role in maintaining a strong and healthy community. By practicing basic routines in
a natural environment, this day camp introduces students to the observation of nature, natural
rhythms and patterns, and the art of questioning. This, along with teachings founded and
perfected through thousands of years in native cultures, combine to form a platform from which
one can gain valuable insights into hearing their own voice as well as gaining skills to effectively
mentor others.
We will facilitate an experiential understanding of community and ecology through routines,
activities, and a series of exercises. With nature as our backdrop participants will experience a
balance of thoughtful discussion and lecture coupled with alone-time in nature for reflection and
cultivating a stronger awareness and connection with the natural world. We do this in a way
unique to traditional teachings from around the globe and present it within a modern context.
The result is an environment that cultivates the students’ own innate curiosity.
- How do we make and keep the connection between generations?
- How can we cultivate healthy and strong relationships to family, friends, community, and nature?
Children long for the attention and
the sense of adventure adults can
offer; adults long to be connected
(or re-connected) with children and
their engaging curiosity.
Registration: To register fill out the form below and Kevin or Monique will get back to you
