W.I.L.D. is our mentoring program for adults interested in connecting to nature,
going on adventures, and learning within a supportive group of peers. All
curriculum is taught outdoors within the context of weather and the seasons.
Our approach to nature-connection is unique in that it draws from indigenous
cultures that have lived sustainably for thousands of years. Participants will
experience time-tested, native principles that are not found in modern educational
systems. Instead of just reading about or talking about skills and awareness we will
be doing. If you are ready to see the world and your life with new eyes then join us
this fall!
(main curriculum points posted further below!)

The course will consist of three parts:

Part 1) Field Intensives: Twice a month (on Friday afternoons 4-7pm) we'll meet in
forests and natural areas in and around Bloomington for about 3 hours. Some
topics we may cover here include tree identification, primitive cooking, or learning
how to tell the speed and mood of an animal from its tracks.

Part 2) Outside of Class: There may be some personal or small group projects to
complete and then share with the group. Participants will also be encouraged to do
the Kamana Naturalist Training Program to supplement our field excursions and
continue learning at home in your own place and at your own pace. For information
about Kamana visit
www.kamana.org

Part 3) Overnight Expeditions: We will go on an overnight excursion (once a
month) into the wilderness from noon Saturday to noon Sunday. This will give us
the opportunity to immerse in the experience for 24-hours at a time. Sleeping in
natural shelters, starting our fires the native way, and night-time awareness games
will bring the skills to life.
